Brendan Barry

Brendan Barry is the Chief Executive Officer (subject to immigration approval) and Chief Underwriting Officer of Aran Re (Cayman) Ltd (“Aran Re”).  He is a member of the founding team of the company leading the business through initial funding, incorporation and licensing. 

 

Brendan is a senior underwriting executive with broad general management experience and a record of strategic leadership in (re)insurance companies from start-up to established businesses. A repeated creator of high-performance underwriting teams, Brendan has a demonstrated ability to grow and protect businesses in all market environments. He has directed multi-million-dollar private equity portfolios and transactions and established crucial risk management functions in multiple roles. He has led broad strategic restructurings to reposition businesses, in Europe, the US and the Cayman Islands, for profitable growth.

 

Throughout his career, Brendan has shown an exceptional capacity for delivering value, paired with an ability to develop lasting customer relationships across jurisdictions and all lines of business. He fosters confidence during business challenges and has protected and grown relationships through significant industry disruptions.

 

Brendan is a native of Dublin, Ireland and spent the early part of his career there. He earned an MBA at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, a post-graduate diploma in Statistics from Trinity College Dublin and a BA in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the National College of Ireland. Brendan is a member of the Board of Directors of various Cayman based insurance-related companies and charities.

Adrian recently served as Managing Director of Aon Cayman for the last 7 years (February 2014 to November 2020) whilst also serving as Captive Strategy Leader for the Americas for Aon.  He oversaw material growth in his time in Aon Cayman both in the Captive book as well as the Reinsurance book and further focused his efforts on operational excellence allied to their talent agenda.  

Preceding his second tour in Cayman Adrian was CEO of his own Life Insurance & Reinsurance company from 2006 to 2014. 

 

Serving as SVP Business Development Adrian worked for Aon in NYC from 2001 to 2006 and with IRMG Cayman from 1998 to 2001.

A Graduate of Insurance Risk Management University of Limerick, and Michael Smurfit Graduate school Dublin, Adrian is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute London.  He is Deputy Chair of the Insurance Managers Association Cayman (“IMAC”) as well as Chair of Cayman Finance Reinsurance sub committee Cayman.  He has served as Chairman of Special Olympics Cayman Islands (“SOCI’) since 2014 and is married to Sinead with 5 Children.

A Senior Reinsurance executive with over 30 years experience in the international market, having successfully operated at the Managing Director level for top-flight London based reinsurance broking houses, and more recently as Board Member, Managing Director and Head of Retrocession for Barents Re, an entrepreneurial niche and specialist Reinsurance company based in Grand Cayman.

 

A track record of developing a portfolio of international clients and leading/building teams to achieve revenue growth through a network of clients, prospects, underwriters and broker contacts across Property and Casualty classes. Successful Retrocession design and advising the Board on strategy, and completing with counterparties in London, Europe, Bermuda, US, Asia, Caribbean and wider afield. Non-Executive Board member for a London based Lloyd’s broking house.

Richard Kuriger

Richard Charles “Chad” Kuriger’s recent focus has been in the capacity of an advisor and consultant to private capital investors bringing to bear a tremendous experience base in not only distribution but also operations.
 
Mr. Kuriger has multiple board experiences, from non-profit governance to national industry trade association representation to for-profit operational governance and, as such, is intimately familiar with the fiduciary responsibilities such a position holds.

In addition to holding his Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations, Chad has three master’s degrees; a Master of Business Administration from The University of Houston, a Master of Science in Management from The American College of Financial Services and a Master of Science in Financial Services from The American College of Financial Services.
 
Chad has served as a National Board Member of the Society of Financial Services Professionals and is Past President and/or Past Chairman of the National Association of Insurance Financial Planners – Houston Foundation Board and still serves The University of Houston Bauer College Foundation Board as a general board member after serving as Chairman.

Chris Humphries

Chris is the Managing Director of Stuarts. He joined in 2004 as one of the founding directors, from the London office of Kendall Freeman (now Locke Lord LLP), where he specialised in the financial services industry and regulatory related matters.

As head of the specialist investment funds team at Stuarts Walker Hersant Humphries, Chris is a recognised leader in his field with over 20 years of experience and he has registered several hundred mutual funds with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and routinely advises on regulatory and compliance issues involving funds, investment managers and fund administrators.

Chris advises on the strategic restructuring of funds, the delay in redemption payments and other redemption restrictions as well as the use of side pockets or special purpose vehicles for illiquid assets and investor communications and disputes. Chris is an experienced independent director and sits on the board of several registered funds, private equity funds and investment vehicles.

Chris establishes investment managers and fund administrators in the Cayman Islands and advises on their respective regulatory regimes. He has extensive experience in all types of fund structures including master-feeder and fund of fund structures as well as the establishment of complex fund platforms using exempted companies and/or partnerships and the use of segregated portfolio companies.

Chris advises on the use of side letters as well as other class rights related issues. As listing agent to the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange ("CSX"), Chris has listed several investment funds on the CSX.

Chris heads the digital, blockchain and fintech team and advises funds focusing on blockchain technology, bitcoin or other crypto-currency strategies; and has a wide range of experience with corporate and commercial transactions for private and listed clients, including mergers, acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, corporate finance, commercial agreements and insurance securitizations.
